STORYLINE
16 year old Manena is spending summer with her sister at the family mansion in rural Temuco, Chile. Surrounded by his many guests, her father Pancho is obsessed with the extermination of carp fish from his artificial pond. Only Manena appears conscious of the terrible futility of the whole situation while the threat of Mapuche Indian guerrilla warfare is slowly encircling them.

 

 


DIRECTOR

​Marcela Said (1974) has a degree in aesthethics from Chile’s Catholic University and a MFA from La Sorbonne. In 1999 she directs her first documentary, Valparaíso, produced by Les Films D’Ici. In 2001 she directs the award-winning documentary I Love Pinochet, invited to Biarritz, FIPA and Chicago. On 2006 she finishes Opus Dei, co-directed with Jean de Certeau, and aired by various european TV stations. In Chile it premièred on cinemas.

“El Mocito” (The young butler), her last documentary, also co-directed withJean de Certeau, was premiered at Berlinale 2011. The Summer of Flying Fish
is her first feature fiction film.
